Mario Sironi, one of the most important artists on the European scene of the 20th century.

Sironi, who was born in Sardinia, artistically grew up between Rome and Milan: in the capital he frequented the studio of Giacomo Balla, and already in 1913 he adhered to Futurism; when a couple of years later he moved to the Lombard capital, he became part of the leading nucleus of the movement. Only at the beginning of the Twenties - influenced by Metaphysical Painting and by the meeting with Margherita Sarfatti - Sironi moves away from futurist experiments, to become one of the founders of a new group, that of the Italian twentieth century. The search for harmony and formal perfection - which has always characterized his work - develops further, and the artist creates works in which monumentality, solidity and architectural conception of painting are the main elements.
